PSA: Take Off Your Wedding Ring

Or any rings you wear on a regular basis.

I learned the hard way that you should not wear your wedding ring 24/7. Especially for 7 straight years and through 3 pregnancies.

I had to go get it cut off today.  It had a little bit to do with my weight gain and a lot to do with the fact that I never ever take my ring off.

Luckily we have a jeweler. Actually, he is the jeweler who made my ring in the first place since I designed it. It was very sad. I have to keep it off for several weeks till my finger gets back to normal and then he will resize it and fix it and get it back on...as long as I promise to remove it when I am just hanging out at the house.

So here is a photo journal of my ring being cut off.

Before (See how it has squished all my fat  up above it?)

The torture tool. Ok, not really. This thing did not hurt at all. It was like a weird version of a can opener. Because my ring is platinum, it took a little more work, but it didn't hurt or get hot like it can.

Got through it.

Now to pry it open. This was a little uncomfortable but not painful.

And it's off. Look at my poor finger.

So, be sure to remove your rings on a regular basis so they do not change the shape of your finger and get stuck on. Our jeweler says he sees this all the time. He even had an older lady who had not take it off in like 50 years and her skin had actually grown over the ring. Eeew.

So now I wait. A few weeks. It is going to feel so weird.

I only take mine off for rowing so it is pretty much on 24/7. Made me think I should be a little more aware. You should see my MIL's though. The finger above the ring is about twice the size as the ring.
